Why Sketchfab for FiveM server props?
Sketchfab hosts millions of free and paid 3D models — furniture, signs, food, electronics, plants, weapons and more. FiveM mappers and server owners use Sketchfab because it is faster than modelling everything from scratch in Blender.
The catch: Sketchfab models ship as GLB/glTF, not as GTA V formats. FiveM cannot stream a
Sketchfab file directly. You must convert the model to YDR (drawable) plus
YTYP, textures and fxmanifest.lua before it
can spawn in-game.
EasyFiveM bridges that gap: browse or import from Sketchfab, edit in the browser, and export a complete FiveM resource ZIP — the same output you would get from a dedicated GLB to YDR converter, but starting from the Sketchfab catalog.
Sketchfab to FiveM vs Sketchfab to YDR — what's the difference?
Searchers use both phrases. They mean the same pipeline with a different emphasis:
| Term | What you want | Output |
|---|---|---|
| Sketchfab to FiveM | A working prop on your roleplay / mapping server | Full resource folder + ensure in server.cfg |
| Sketchfab to YDR | The GTA V drawable file specifically | stream/*.ydr + YTYP + YTD inside a ZIP |
EasyFiveM delivers both: the YDR conversion and the packaged FiveM resource. You do not export YDR in isolation and then hunt for a YTYP tool — archetype, collision, manifest and stream folder are generated together.
Step 0 — Check the Sketchfab license before you convert
This is the most skipped step and the most important one for live servers.
- Download allowed? — Only import models where the author enabled download. Some Sketchfab models are view-only.
- Creative Commons — CC BY means credit required; CC BY-NC means no commercial servers without permission; CC0 is most permissive.
- Commercial RP servers — If your server earns revenue, verify the license allows commercial use or contact the author.
- Attribution — Keep a credits list for CC BY models used on your server.
EasyFiveM does not grant rights to third-party models. You are responsible for complying with each Sketchfab author's license before converting Sketchfab to YDR and publishing on a public server.
Method A — Import Sketchfab models inside Prop Maker (recommended)
Prop Maker includes a built-in Sketchfab model browser. You search the catalog, preview models, and import the GLB without leaving EasyFiveM — no manual download step.
Step 1 — Open Prop Maker and sign in
- Go to easyfivem.com/editor.
- Sign in with Discord (required for Sketchfab import and export).
- On the upload step, click Find models to open the Sketchfab browser.
Step 2 — Search and pick a model
- Search by keyword — e.g. "barrel", "vending machine", "office chair".
- Browse categories: furniture, signs, food, electronics, plants and more.
- Open a model preview and confirm textures and polycount look acceptable.
- Import the model — Prop Maker downloads the GLB and loads it into the 3D workspace.
Step 3 — Edit before Sketchfab → YDR conversion
After import, treat the model like any other upload:
- Set a clean prop name (becomes your YDR / YTYP filename).
- Adjust scale — Sketchfab models vary wildly in size.
- Fix textures in the browser if materials look wrong.
- Generate collision so players do not walk through the prop.
Browse Sketchfab and convert to FiveM in one session.
Open Prop Maker — Find modelsMethod B — Download GLB from Sketchfab manually
Use this when you already have a specific Sketchfab URL or the in-app browser is unavailable.
- Open the model page on sketchfab.com.
- Click Download 3D Model (only visible if the author allows downloads).
- Choose glTF Binary (.glb) — always pick GLB over OBJ for FiveM conversion.
- Open Prop Maker and drag the
.glbfile into the upload area. - Continue with the Sketchfab to YDR steps below.
If download is greyed out, the author disabled it — pick a different model or contact them for permission. Do not use ripped or stolen assets on a public server.
How to convert Sketchfab to YDR (step by step)
Whether you imported via the Sketchfab browser or uploaded a downloaded GLB, the YDR export path is identical:
1. Upload / import complete
Your Sketchfab mesh should appear in the 3D viewport. Wait for textures to finish loading before editing.
2. Name your prop
Use lowercase with underscores, e.g. sf_office_chair. Avoid spaces and special characters.
3. Scale check
Sketchfab scans and architectural models are often the wrong scale. Compare against a player-sized reference in the preview. Most furniture props should be roughly 0.8–1.2 metres wide.
4. Textures & collision
- Replace or paint texture slots if the Sketchfab materials look flat or pink in preview.
- Run collision generation — essential for RP servers where players interact with props.
5. Export YDR + YTYP + fxmanifest ZIP
- Click Download ZIP when export health reaches 100.
- Your ZIP contains:
stream/*.ydr— Sketchfab geometry converted to GTA V drawablestream/*.ytd— texture dictionary*.ytyp— archetype so the prop registers in-gamefxmanifest.lua— FiveM resource manifest
Upload and preview in Prop Maker are free. Credits apply when you download the final Sketchfab to YDR ZIP. See plans & credits.
Install your Sketchfab prop on a FiveM server
- Extract the ZIP to
resources/sf_my_prop/on your server. - Add
ensure sf_my_proptoserver.cfg. - Restart the server or refresh resources in txAdmin.
- Spawn with your mapping tool, prop spawner or script using the YTYP archetype name.
Works on ESX, QBCore, standalone and custom frameworks. Full manifest details in our FiveM resource ZIP guide.
Sketchfab to FiveM tools compared
| Tool | Sketchfab integration | Texture editing | Output |
|---|---|---|---|
| EasyFiveM Prop Maker | Built-in Sketchfab browser + GLB upload | Yes — in browser | Full ZIP (YDR + YTYP + YTD + manifest) |
| Sketchfab → Blender → Sollumz | Manual download only | Yes — in Blender | Manual resource assembly |
| Third-party Sketchfab browsers | Catalog search + one-click convert | Usually no | Varies — often credits per model |
| Generic GLB converters | No — upload GLB yourself | No | Often YDR only, no YTYP |
For most server props, EasyFiveM wins on speed: Sketchfab import, 3D editing and YDR export in one tab. Use Blender + Sollumz when you need vertex-level control on vehicles or complex MLO interiors.
Tips for best Sketchfab → YDR quality
- Pick GLB downloads — preserves embedded textures better than OBJ.
- Watch polycount — Sketchfab photogrammetry scans can exceed 500k triangles; prefer models under 100k for FiveM props.
- Check double-sided faces — thin objects (leaves, paper) may need thickness or they disappear at angles.
- Rename before export — a clear prop name saves debugging in server.cfg later.
- Test on a dev server — always verify scale and collision before pushing to production.
- Combine with community — browse EasyFiveM Community for props other creators already converted and tested.
Troubleshooting Sketchfab to FiveM conversion
Sketchfab browser does not load / "Find models" missing
- Sign in with Discord first — Sketchfab import requires an authenticated session.
- Sketchfab may be temporarily disabled during maintenance; try manual GLB download (Method B).
- Check your plan — some features may require a paid tier during open beta.
Download button greyed out on Sketchfab
The author disabled downloads. Search for a similar model with download enabled or use a different asset source.
Pink or missing textures after import
- Re-download as GLB (not OBJ) with textures embedded.
- Re-assign texture slots in Prop Maker before exporting YDR.
- Some Sketchfab shaders do not map 1:1 to GTA V materials — expect to touch up textures.
Prop is huge or tiny in-game
Fix scale in Prop Maker before export. Sketchfab units are not standardized — always preview before downloading ZIP.
Model too heavy / server FPS drops
Pick a lower-poly Sketchfab model or decimate in Blender before upload. FiveM props should ideally stay under 50k–80k triangles.
Export queue
Free tier may queue during peak hours. Paid plans skip the queue. Editing and Sketchfab preview remain free.
Sketchfab to FiveM & Sketchfab to YDR — FAQ
Can I convert Sketchfab models to FiveM props?
Yes. Import via Prop Maker's Sketchfab browser or upload a downloaded GLB, then export a FiveM resource ZIP with YDR, YTYP and fxmanifest.
How do I convert Sketchfab to YDR?
Import the Sketchfab model into EasyFiveM Prop Maker, edit scale/textures/collision, and click Download ZIP. The YDR drawable is inside the stream folder.
Is Sketchfab to FiveM conversion free?
Browsing, importing and editing are free. Credits apply when you export the final YDR + YTYP ZIP to your server.
Do I need Blender to convert Sketchfab to FiveM?
No for standard props. EasyFiveM runs Sketchfab → YDR conversion in the cloud. Use Blender only for advanced assets or heavy retopology.
Does Sketchfab to YDR work on ESX and QBCore?
Yes. YDR props are framework-agnostic. They work on any FiveM server that streams custom assets.
Can I use any Sketchfab model on my server?
Only models you have the right to use. Check the Sketchfab license, download permission and commercial-use terms before exporting.
GLB or OBJ from Sketchfab — which is better?
Always GLB. It embeds textures in one file and produces the most reliable Sketchfab to YDR results.
What files do I get after converting Sketchfab to FiveM?
A complete resource: stream/*.ydr, YTD textures, YTYP archetype, YBN collision and fxmanifest.lua in a single ZIP.
Can I search Sketchfab without leaving EasyFiveM?
Yes. Click Find models in Prop Maker to open the built-in Sketchfab browser, search by keyword or category, and import directly.
Sketchfab to FiveM vs downloading from TurboSquid?
Same Prop Maker workflow — import GLB/OBJ/FBX, export YDR. Sketchfab often has more free CC models; TurboSquid leans commercial.
How is this different from Zoov or other Sketchfab converters?
EasyFiveM adds a full 3D editor (textures, collision, scale) before YDR export, not just a one-click geometry dump. You also get community import and Image to Prop AI in the same platform.
